Katazome-shi is a type of stencil-dyed paper that originated in Kyoto during the 20th century. It is created using traditional kimono printing techniques, where each colour is applied by hand using persimmon-dyed kozo stencils and paste, along with "Gojiru" (soy bean juice). Thanks to this meticulous process, the pigments are able to deeply penetrate the paper, resulting in vibrant and long-lasting colours. These elegant and boldly patterned papers are highly sought for their timeless beauty, and are often used for wall art, bookbinding, boxes, greeting cards and lamp shades.
